Be The Beer Pong Champ at Your Next Party

Beirut or beer pong game has continued to gain popularity in the United States. The game found its place among college frat parties and tailgating events. This game is believed to originated in the 1950's at Dartmouth College and more closely mirroring ping pong than it does now.

Beer pong, as a title, is normally saved for the game that is still played with paddles, however, beirut was born in the 1980's as the title for the paddle free game. Still debate in ongoing about who originated the specific nomenclature, however the rules for each games is surprisingly similar.

Setting up the game itself is simple. There are two teams playing at once, normally with two people on each team. Originally, this table was a ping pong table, but the paddle-less version does not require a ping pong table. Either six, ten or fifteen cups are then set up at both ends of the table, these cups are filled partially with different beverages.

Obviously from the name, beer is usually used. Dartmouth College actually banned beer pong. This has forced some people to play it will root beer or other non-alcoholic drinks.

Since beer pong is a house game, the rules can vary from place to place. The number of cups used, the types of shots allowed and the strategies are usually different.

Some games require a bounce before entering the cup, just like ping pong.

Most house rules require that when a cup is hit, the opposing team must drink the beer and then rearrange the cups. The game normally ends, when one team has forced the other team to drink all of the cups. However, some places have a final showdown or redemption where the losing team can stay alive if they double sink one cup.

Regardless of the rules or name of the game, beer pong is still growing in popularity. There should always be precautions taken while playing any game which involves consuming copious amounts of alcohol. However, if the players are careful then beer pong can elevate the party to the next level. Bragging rights as the beer pong champion can also help elevate anyones status in the party scene.
